Is this internet speed test free?
Yes. SpeedTesters is a 100% free internet speed test. There is no app to install and no signup required — just open the page and press start.
Will you store or sell my speed test results?
No. SpeedTesters does not sell your data. Test results shown on the page are processed in your browser and only shared if you explicitly choose to save or share them.
How does the speed test measure my connection?
We measure download speed, upload speed, ping (latency), and jitter by transferring data between your browser and nearby Cloudflare test servers, then report the results in real time.
What is a good internet speed?
For most homes, 25–100 Mbps download is good for HD/4K streaming and video calls. Gamers benefit most from low ping (under 50 ms). See our internet speed guide for details.
Why is my speed test slower than my plan?
WiFi signal, network congestion, VPNs, old hardware, and peak-hour traffic can all reduce measured speed. Use a wired connection and close other apps for the most accurate result.
Does the speed test work on mobile?
Yes. SpeedTesters works in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, tablets, laptops, and desktops — no app download needed.
How accurate is the speed test?
Results are highly accurate for a browser-based test because we use Cloudflare’s global network. For best accuracy, run the test a few times and use an Ethernet connection.
What is a good download speed for home internet?
For one or two users, 25–100 Mbps is plenty for HD streaming and browsing. Households with 4K streaming, gaming, and multiple devices benefit from 200 Mbps to 1 Gbps. Run a speed test to see what you actually get.
How much internet speed do I need for Netflix 4K?
Netflix recommends about 15–25 Mbps per 4K stream. If several people stream at once, aim for 100 Mbps or more so every device has headroom.
What is a good ping for online gaming?
Under 20 ms is excellent, 20–50 ms is good, and 50–100 ms is playable. Over 100 ms you may notice lag. Ping matters more than raw download speed for most online games.
Why is my WiFi speed test slower than Ethernet?
WiFi loses speed to distance, walls, interference, and shared airtime with other devices. Ethernet gives a direct wired path and usually shows higher, more stable speeds — use it for the most accurate baseline test.
How do I check my internet speed on my phone?
Open SpeedTesters in Safari or Chrome on your iPhone or Android. For WiFi, stay connected to your home network; for mobile data or 5G, turn WiFi off and run the same free browser speed test — no app required.
Can I test fiber, cable, and Starlink with this tool?
Yes. The same internet speed test works for fiber, cable, DSL, fixed wireless, Starlink, hotspot, and home 5G. Compare download Mbps, upload Mbps, and ping to what your provider advertises.
Should I turn off my VPN before a speed test?
Yes, for the most accurate reading of your raw ISP connection. A VPN can add latency and lower throughput. Re-enable it after you finish testing if you need it for privacy or work.
How much internet speed do I need for working from home?
Most people are fine with 50–100 Mbps download and at least 10 Mbps upload for HD video calls. If multiple people join Zoom or Teams at once, aim higher and prioritize low jitter. Run a free speed test during your usual work hours.
Can I check apartment or dorm WiFi speed with this tool?
Yes. Open SpeedTesters on your phone or laptop on the shared network and run the test. Results help you see whether slowdowns are WiFi congestion, distance from the router, or the building’s upstream connection.
